Hot cross buns were among the earliest Easter treats, made by European monks and given to the poor during Lent. Pretzels were originally associated with Easter. The twists of a pretzel were thought to resemble arms crossed in prayer.
In Medieval Europe, eggs were forbidden during Lent. Eggs laid during that time were often boiled or otherwise preserved. Eggs were thus a mainstay of Easter meals, and a prized Easter gift for children and servants.
Around 1885, Russian jeweler Peter Carl Fabergé took the decoration of eggs to new heights. He volunteered to create a jewelry egg for Czar Alexander III to give his wife, Marie. Fabergé kept the egg a secret, but delighted the royal family with an ordinary looking "egg," but with tiny surprises made of gold, enamel, and precious gems inside.

It's Autism Awareness Month!
In order to highlight the growing need for concern and awareness about autism, the Autism Society has been celebrating National Autism Awareness Month since the 1970s.
This is our charity of the month. We have two employees with children that are autistic. We have a team going to the walk on April 30th at Westdale Mall at 8:30 if anyone would like to join us.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
In Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day, people traditionally wear a small bunch of shamrocks on their jackets or caps. Children wear orange, white and green badges, and women and girls wear green ribbons in their hair.
Saint Patrick's feast day, as a kind of national day, was already being celebrated by the Irish in Europe in the ninth and tenth centuries. In later times he become more and more widely known as the patron of Ireland.
Seattle and other cities paint the traffic stripe of their parade routes green. Chicago dyes its river green and has done so since 1962 when sewer workers used green dye to check for sewer discharges and had the idea to turn the river green for Saint Patrick's Day.
Originally, the colour associated with Saint Patrick was blue. Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick's Day as early as the 17th century.

Valentine's Day Trivia:

Tip of the Month
Front loading washers have the tendency to get moldy and smelly, and leave your clothes smelling gross. WHY? You are using liquid detergent! The liquid detergents have animal fat (phosphate) in them, which leaves a residue, and feeds mold.

Thank You to all who donated coats for our "Coat Drive" the month of November. They are going to a church in town that serves meals on Saturdays to those in need and will be given away then.
